Fire Resistance Glass: The unique bond of Safety and Aesthetic Appeal
You never know
when a hazardous situation may arise. It is nothing but natural then to be
prepared for any eventuality. The occurrence of fire can be unpredictable and
devastating. Fatalities and costly damages can be prevented by having stringent
safety measures in place which include fire extinguishers and evacuation plans.
It might come
out as a surprise but glass is yet another component that can help reduce the
effect of fire. The past few years have witnessed major innovations in the
enhancement of firefighting management and systems. Among these is the
introduction of fire-resistant glass. Unlike ordinary glass, the
fire-resistant glass is made of sterner material without comprising on
sophistication and aesthetic appeal.
Today, many
Indian companies are manufacturing durable, fire-resistant glasses by following
the European classification standards (EN 13501). There are three categories of
fire-resistant glass that fall within this category.
E - Integrity
Integrity is a
special prerequisite of special fire-resistance tempered glass.
Mainly used for international applications, this type of glass works as an
effective tool in prohibiting the flames from reaching those areas which have
not yet been impacted. However, they do not provide protection from radiation.
EW - Integrity
and Low radiation
This class
includes the laminated and tempered glasses that are instrumental in
prohibiting the flames and radiation from spreading out to the non-fire side by
up to 15KW per sqm. Ideal for both internal and external applications, they
also offer integrity.
EI class -
integrity and insulation
This is the
type of glass that prohibits the maximum temperature from exceeding 140 degree
Celsius on the non-fire side while also promising integrity and insulation.
Today, a
number of versatile and high-quality fire-resistant glasses are available in
the market. Among these is the AIS Pyrobel Glass, which makes your surroundings
safe and adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to your space. In case of
a major fire, the glass restricts heat transfer and prevents flames and smoke
from spreading. The glass is specially designed to meet the fire protection
ratings specified by national building regulations.
A few other
options to choose from include wired glass, borosilicate glass, toughened
glass, toughened glass with flame retarding coating, toughened glass with
intumescent gel, and laminated glass with intumescent gel.
